“A déjà vu is your future self doing a past life regression.” David Mellen-Thomas
This week's newsletter is brought to you by the DeWalt hand tool company whose flagship colors are black and yellow, and they can be found in every big box retailer.

Ok, there was no money exchanged, but the outsized role DeWalt played in this space this week deserved honorary sponsorship.
Rewind
This week has a bit of a “Rewind” flavor to it, but just like this April 4, 2024 newsletter edition, it wrote itself.
Only this week, I couldn't write so I had to bring out a fitting replacement.
Inside the link below, I specifically touched on firsthand knowledge of the gut-skin microbiome axis, a cool study on the wound microbiome, and how an innocent trip for carryout margaritas was interrupted by a low-hanging branch from a beefy pear tree.
It really is interesting and worth a read or re-read for the OG subscribers.
Why have I seemingly mailed in this week's edition by regurgitating a previous wound microbiome topic?
Because I have a new wound microbiome story that rendered me incapacitated until a few hours ago.
But as they say the show goes on.
Sort of.
While I was in the process of rebuilding a small porch, I managed to drive a DeWalt drill bit attachment deep between my thumb and index finger, when it slipped off the screw head I was attempting to drill into a board.
In the event you failed to click through the aforementioned link to the previous newsletter, I'm including a visual reference to what this pain felt like:

It was very similar to being on the receiving end of an RKO, the signature knockout move by championship wrestler, Randy Orton.
I managed to miss everything on the way in and won't require any hand surgery, but the swelling and pain sidelined me for the better part of the week.
The intricacies of the gut microbiome don't make a lot of sense on clear days, so they surely don't register under the fog of pain medication.
So, I’ll be back next week with a narcotic-free mind, but until then, enjoy the encore addition and you have my permission to chuckle the next time you see a DeWalt drill.
For any Hillstreet Blues fans on the email today, “hey, let’s be careful out there”.

Thanks for reading,
Jeff
